New Blog Design/Unconvinced

Those that have been following me for a while may have noticed that my blog design has suddenly changed a fair bit. Until now, my blog had been a very slightly customised version of the Simple template and had no colour incorporated into it. Although I was fairly happy with it and I do like simple blog designs, I have for a while been wanting to get a bit more creative with my blog design and add a little colour. I chose to use teal/turquoise as this is my favourite colour and pink as I felt the two colours were complementary and, after some experimenting, ended up with the design now live on my blog.

As it turns out, blog design is not my strong point and I'm rather unconvinced by what I have created. Certain aspects I am very happy with, for example the post signature, but I am concerned that the overall look is rather girly/childish and not as professional as I would like it to be. I think part of the problem is that it's never going to look exactly as it does in my head, and I'm always going to be critical of something I've made myself. I am keeping my blog as it is rather than going back to my old design but will hopefully be making some gradual changes here and there until I'm relatively satisfied with how it looks.

As well as to acknowledge the change in my blog, this post is largely a request for feedback and advice as to how to improve upon this design as, honestly, I'm not entirely sure how to proceed from here.

  3. Uhm, I'd like to learn how to do this!!! OOh I like that "back to top" arrow haha :)
I think without the flower on the header is pretty and simple. Less is best esp if you like the simple theme :) I'm sure you'll figure it out the more you try and the more you look at other blogs.

  4. Ooh, I like this, I think it's really cute! Sometimes the best things take a little time to grow on you, whether it's a new blog design or a haircut -- that latter perhaps a little more literally. Your blog design is sweet and simple -- often the best way to be!

  6. I'm a new reader (thanks for leaving your link on twitter), but I like the layout/colours you've used. It's unique but easy to read and navigate. I've been trying to add a signature for ages now and just can't do it. Everything just leaves a blank box, do you have any tips?

  8. I love the icons, back to top arrow, and use of color - but the resolution looks a bit blurry to me. This stuff isn't easy!

  10. For the record, I think your blog design is lovely! I go through periods of absolutely loathing the changes I've made to mine all the time, and I've been coding HTML for nearly a decade - so I think it's just natural! Your design is part of the reason I've just followed you, though (obviously I love your actual content & voice too, I'm not just entirely shallow ha), so you have to have been doing something right :) xx

  13. I think you've done great with your new blog design, especially if this is the first time you've done something like this!! I love the colour scheme, so many blogs are monochrome now!! I'd definitely recommend just googling things if you get stuck, there are some great tutorials out there for blog design, they really REALLY helped me, haha. :)

  14. I like this, but maybe I liked the previous one more? I don't know, I'm for the simplest things ever. I admire your skills though, I'd like to be able to do this myself! It's still lovely, love the black to top arrow! ;) xx

  18. it's great you've had a go at doing it yourself!
i love the new version, just the header looks a bit fuzzy, maybe make a bigger version and resize it manually in the coding? i'm not sure!

overall though, think it's great, stick with it!
